Diego Varela Vargas is a Media Artist and DJ born in Ajax, Canada 1998. His Family originated from Mexico, and after his birth he resided in Mexico City for his first 6 years. In the spring of 2020 Diego received his bachelors of Performance Production. Currently, he is living and working in Toronto, Canada.
Diego’s art if focuses on immersive audio and visual elements in order to enhance live performance, and film productions. His designs are created by using a combination of original compositions, and heavily processed recordings. he aims to implement film audio techniques into live productions, by using sound as a constant element to set mood, focus, and environment. His visual creations are explorations of: space, geometry, and distortion .
One of Diego’s proudest accomplishment was the co-creation and composition of To Be Determined: A Dance Project. On February 21st 2020, Emerson Kafarowski, and Diego Varela Vargas opened this dance production, which explored six ecosystems that are greatly being affected by climate change. This was a collective project involving over 25 team members, and multiple collaborations; the show made profited over $1,500 which were redirected to their partnered NGO, Ontario Clean Air Alliance.
